Date Night Makeup Tutorial

With Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s Day) coming up, we had our resident Boston makeup artist, Kate, join local blogger Elissa from Style Wire to show us how to do a high-impact, low-effort, and most importantly clean date night makeup look.

1. Prep Skin

Hydrated, healthy skin is the most important first step to any makeup look, so Kate prepped Elissa’s skin with a toner and moisturizer.

2. Apply a Base

Elissa’s skin is naturally radiant, so Kate did a light base of the Ilia Tinted Moisturizer in shade Hanalei T3 and the RMS “Un” Cover-Up in shade 33.

3. Make Eyes Pop

Kate had Elissa put on Jane Iredale Mascara in Black Ice before applying eyeshadow, but you can also apply mascara after you’ve done eyeshadow. To help the eyeshadow last longer and eliminate any worry of needing a touch up, Kate first used Ilia’s “On & On” Natural Brightening Eye Primer on Elissa’s lids.

After letting the primer set, she used Ere Perez’s Chamomile Eye Shadow Palette in the shade Lovely. She pressed the shadows onto the lid and blended up into the brow bone, ending by using a thin brush to line the upper lash line and intensify Elissa’s eyes.

To finish off the eyes and add more dimension, Kate pressed a little bit of the RMS Cream Eye Shadow in the shade Myth into the middle of Elissa’s lid.

Elissa has great brows, so Kate just used a spoolie to brush her brows up, but you can use a brow gel like Jane Iredale’s Pure Brow to give your brows a little extra something.

4. Highlight Lips and Cheeks

Next up was RMS Lip2Cheek in the shade Modest, which Kate dabbed onto the apples of Elissa’s cheek. This multi-purpose product can also be used for lips, but Kate decided to finish the look with Vapour’s Elixir Lip Gloss in the shade Beguile.
