All About Multi-Masking: The Treatment Technique You Need to Try
Everyone has heard of multi-tasking, but have you heard of multi-masking? Multi-masking is actually as straightforward as it sounds: It’s the process of using several different masks at the same time to get a highly personalized skincare treatment. Do you have an oily and acne-prone T-zone? Use a detoxifying mask in that particular area! Do you have dry and sensitive cheeks? Use a hydrating mask on them!
Why You Should Try Multi-Masking
Multi-masking is a fun and easy way to target multiple skincare concerns at the same time, and overall, it’s an efficient way to give yourself an at-home facial. (Plus, the best #selfcare selfies!)
The reality is that all skin is different—from one person to the next and on different areas of the face as well. This is why we’re such big advocates of skincare customization at Follain. We love helping you customize the perfect skincare routine for your skin type and concerns, from your cleanser right down to your masks and other treatments.
How to Create Your Customized Face Mask Treatment
Choosing the masks to use while you multi-mask is quite easy! Just think about each area of your face independently, and how each area acts skincare-wise. Then treat that particular area accordingly with a mask.
For example, if you have dull skin all around your face, but your nose is dry and cracked, you can apply a brightening mask to most of the face, but switch to a hydrating mask for your nose.
Read on for three ideas for your multi-masking adventure.
1. Dull Skin Everywhere With A Dry, Cracked Nose
All Over: Sweet Cherry Brightening Enzyme Peel by Naturopathica
The Sweet Cherry Brightening Enzyme Peel uses AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids, which occur naturally in many fruits) to brighten and exfoliate. Meanwhile, lactic acid works to gently remove dead skin from the surface, which helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This is the perfect mask to apply where you’re experiencing dull and sallow skin. After using it, your skin will shine bright like a diamond!
Nose: Advanced Hydration Mask by Josh Rosebrook
The Advanced Hydration Mask is an excellent choice for soothing a dry and cracked nose. It’s formulated with blue tansy to soothe irritation, aloe vera for regeneration, and Indian senna for hydration and skin cell repair. This product is so amazing, that it can heal dry skin overnight! (Yes, you can let this mask work its magic while you sleep.) It also smells like a dream, which is an added bonus.
2. Oily T-Zone and Dry, Sensitive Cheeks
T-Zone: Love + Charcoal Mask by One Love Organics
The Love + Charcoal Mask is highly detoxifying thanks to its activated charcoal, leaving you with deeply cleansed skin. It’s also formulated with cupuacu butter, which moisturizes the skin. This beautifully balances the charcoal in the formula as to not leave your skin dry or stripped. This mask is an excellent remedy for an oily T-Zone.
Cheeks: Herbal Hydration Complex by Farmaesthetics
The Herbal Hydration Complex is extremely soothing and cooling for inflamed skin, as well as deeply hydrating. This is great choice to apply on dry/sensitive cheeks. I love applying this mask on my cheeks during the winter time for an ultra-soothing and hydrating experience.
3. Acne Spots and Red Irritated Skin
Spot Treatment: The Problem Solver by May Lindstrom
One of my favorite ways to use The Problem Solver is as a spot treatment for breakouts. That’s right: I apply the product only on blemish spots around the face. This product is jam-packed with beautiful spices and herbs that extract dirt, oil, and bacteria from the skin. I pull out this product around “that time of the month,” and let me tell you, it works like a charm every time.
All Over: Healing Manuka Mask by La Bella Figura
This is always my mask of choice to use while I spot-treat with The Problem Solver mask. I apply the Healing Manuka Mask all around my face, avoiding my any blemishes that I’m spot-treating. This mask is highly nourishing, hydrating, and soothing thanks to the manuka honey.
Don’t be afraid to get creative with your multi-masking journey! You can use as many masks as you need to concoct the perfect facial cocktail. It’s also worth noting that your skin can change with the seasons, so you might need to update your masking routine throughout the year.
