4-Step Daily Routine for Sensitive, Acne-Prone Skin

Follain Dallas store educator Lindsey recently shared her secrets for clearing acne using clean beauty products with a routine for normal to oily skin types. But everyone’s skin is different, so here she breaks down the best products if you’re struggling with acne and have sensitive skin, too.

1. Cleanser: Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser

I adore this cleanser. It smells deeply of fresh strawberries and is amazing at brightening. It does a fabulous job at removing makeup and dirt from the day, as well as works to gently exfoliate from the fruit enzymes in the formula. It will leave your face squeaky clean without feeling tight and uncomfortable.

2. Toner: Indie Lee COQ-10 Toner

This toner hydrates and balances with aloe, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidant COQ-10. The aloe is great for soothing irritation and redness while the hyaluronic acid will provide needed hydration.

3. Serum: Osea Hyaluronic Sea Serum

Hydration is a crucial step when dealing with acneic skin. The great thing about this serum is that it’s a gel formula, meaning that it’s incredibly lightweight and won’t leave your skin feeling greasy, but it packs a serious punch of hydration. Hyaluronic acid arrives 1,000 times it’s weight in water, while vitamins and minerals are heavily nourishing to the skin.

4. Moisturizer: Herbivore Botanicals Lapis Facial Oil

This is a fabulous oil for acne-prone skin. I know it sounds scary to use an oil when you’re dealing with acne, but at Follain, we believe in fighting oil with oil! Using a facial oil will help convince your skin to produce less oil over time. The blue color comes from blue tansy, which is highly anti-inflammatory and great at reducing redness and irritation.

Additional Treatments for Sensitive Acne-Prone Skin

Osmia Spot Treatment: This spot treatment is revolutionary! It’s a beautiful blend of essential oils that are anti-bacterial and antiseptic. It gently works by sinking into the skin and healing blemishes from within. Spots will eventually fade away.

Herbivore Botanicals Blue Tansy Mask: Blue tansy strikes again! This mask is anti inflammatory and calming from the blue tansy, while fruit enzymes  and natural BHA/AHAs (beta and alpha hydroxy acids) will gently exfoliate. Yum! My best recommendation is to use this mask one to two times a week. This mask is very gentle, so you can definitely work to build to three times a week if needed.

Intelligent Nutrients Detoxifying Glycolic Gel: I’m obsessed with this exfoliation gel. It is super gentle and also powerful at the same time. I wear it for about five minutes, and afterwards my skin is flushed and baby soft. The sugar cane extract gently lifts dead skin cells off of the face without the use of a manual exfoliant (which can sometimes be too harsh for sensitive skin). To start, I would recommend exfoliating one to two times a week so that you’re not over-stressing your skin, causing further irritation.
