The Ultimate 4-Step Routine for Dry, Sensitive Skin
Hi guys! I’m Ellen, an Education Specialist at Follain. I love clean beauty and am fascinated by the powers of hardworking ingredients that work to hydrate and heal our skin. I have dry, sensitive skin that is often redness prone. There was also a time when I really over-exfoliated, so I’ve had to do a lot of work to rebuild my skin barrier. This nightly routine has kept my face feeling balanced and under control.
Step 1: Double Cleanse
At night, I like to start my routine with the Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser. Oils are great at breaking down dirt and removing makeup. This oil cleanser is unique because it has natural surfactants that make it rinse clean with water. It also has tons of anti-inflammatory ingredients that soften and smooth the skin, so it’s effective for all skin types.
After my oil cleanse, I follow up with the Earth Tu Face Face Wash. It’s an ultra-sudsy face wash—without the sulfates!—so you get that clean feeling without your skin feeling dry, itchy or tight. It’s aloe vera-based, which makes it especially soothing, so I always recommend it for clogged pores, acne or inflammation.
Step 2: Tone
I love to tone with the Hannes Dottir Mineral Mist. The first ingredient after water is a kelp-based glycerin, a natural humectant that pulls moisture from the air and seals it into the skin. It also contains a bit of spearmint oil, which makes it a great choice for anyone concerned with redness.
Step 3: Moisturize
While my skin is still damp from toner, I press in my oil. This is essential because moist skin helps your oils absorb more deeply. Lately, I’ve been loving the Osmia Vital Nectar Rose Drops. This is the #1 product that I recommend for hormonal breakouts because it’s rich in selenium and zinc. It also features prickly pear seed oil, which is high in vitamin K and particularly restorative for anyone with broken or fragile capillaries.
*This is also the step of your routine where you’d apply a night cream, in place of or layered on top of a facial oil. Totally a matter of preference!
Step 4: Mask
The Josh Rosebrook Advanced Hydration Mask is my holy grail for hydration. It’s got a combo of different butters, including shea and mango seed, to rebuild the lipid layer of the skin and keep it soft and elastic. The blue tint comes from blue tansy, your new anti-inflammatory BFF. I use this mask at least four times a week. I fall asleep with it on and always wake up to the softest skin.
