Fresh, Spring Makeup in 10 Simple Steps

Spring Makeup Look

Hey, guys! It’s Amber Voner here, Follain’s resident makeup artist and self-proclaimed clean beauty junkie.

I’m excited to share this makeup tutorial for achieving a fresh-faced springtime look, using only non-toxic products. Makeup is a notoriously hard category to swap from conventional to clean.

Lucky for us, Follain has made the transition a little easier with products that are effective and long-lasting.

First things first: Prep Your skin

 1. Cleanse and Tone

Start with your favorite cleanser, then spritz on True Botanicals Renew Nutrient Mist, to refresh and balance your skin. A hydrating mist is essential because it helps your face absorb the products to follow.

2. Hydrate

Press the Indie Lee Squalane Oil into your skin to double down on hydration. A single-origin oil (just one ingredient) like this one is great for everyone, even those with sensitive and congested skin.

3. Brighten

Apply a brightening under-eye treatment, like the Tammy Fender Awakening Eye Gel. I love this product because it’s both firming and hydrating, and helps to prime eyes for concealer.

4. Moisturize

Follow up with the True Organics of Sweden All You Need Is Me miracle ointment. This mineral oil-free skin-saver is a great swap for any conventional petroleum-based product in your routine. It nourishes skin, lips and cuticles with castor and jojoba oils.

Pro Tip: Make sure to allow your skincare products 5-10 minutes to soak in before applying makeup.

Our lovely friend Alaina is modeling the finished look here. Follow along to shop the products she’s wearing and learn how to recreate it at home!

5. Foundation

For this look, I used Vapour Atmosphere Soft Focus Foundation (Alaina wears s123). Apply with a brush or your hands—just a few pumps on your fingertips, then blend into your skin like a moisturizer!

6. Contour

Every artist needs a good palette, and the RMS Beauty Signature Set is a dream. For bronzer, start with the color Spell (also sold on its own as a Lip2Cheek). Apply to the perimeter of your forehead, then add touches to your nose and chin to create balance.

7. Blush

This cream-based, refillable blush from Kjaer Weis can be easily applied with just fingertips (Alaina wears the shade Blossoming). Blend into the apples of your cheek, then carry some of the tone into the contour shade for a cohesive look.

8. Highlight

Another incredible (and versatile) palette from RMS is the Luminizer Quad, with 4 flattering shades for every skin tone. For a natural glow, blend your highlight of choice into the top of your cheekbones, inner corner of your eyes and Cupid’s bow.

9. Eyes

Next, onto the eyes: Apply the ILIA Silken Shadow Stick (Alaina wears In Between Days) to mobile lid and blend with a fingertip. This product is great for beginners and pros alike because it blends so easily.

Line the outer third of the lash line—top, bottom or both—with Kjaer Weis Eye Pencil in Black.

Don’t forget a coat or two of W3ll People Expressionist Mascara in Pro Black. Apply as close to the lash line as possible, then wiggle out to tips for fluffy, defined lashes.

10. Lips

Last but not least, complete the look with a bold lip. Fill the entire lip with a liner for longer wear (Alaina wears Kjaer Weiss Lip Pencil in Classic). Follow with an all-over wash of color, like RMS Wild With Desire Lipstick in Jezebel.
